We’re getting to the point where we have to wear coats everywhere and one thing that always throws me off is when to take it off. I know that sounds like a stupid inquiry because you obviously take your coat off when it’s hot, but what about when you’re carrying stuff and have nothing to drape it over. What about when you walk into a room that you’re only going to be in for five minutes - is it worth the hassle of taking your bag off and dropping your stuff to slide off your coat and hold it along with your other belongings only to have to reverse the entire activity within a short period because you’re going back outside. I’m a beginner to this New England weather, but it seems to me like these people dwell in extremities: it’s freezing cold outside, but as soon as I step into any building I’m instantly dripping sweat. So it may seem like a grandeur hassle to take my coat off, but do I want to sweat through all of my clothes? I never know what’s appropriate. It seems so silly, but it’s kind of awkward. I guess I’ll figure it out in another two weeks…
On a different note, I paid a lot of attention to this coat etiquette dilemma while I was at the basketball game tonight. Since I came from a high school where basketball was of little to no importance (even the coaches hated to be there at KO) I completely forgot how exciting live games could be. JWU doesn’t have the best team (or a remotely good one) but it was still fun to be at a sporting event with my friends. I feel like this experience has been long overdue and of course it reminded me of football. We were mocking the cheerleaders, watching the dance team in awe and referring everything to movies and making mild insults to the players as if we could do any better. I’m going to try to make it to more games and Brad wants me to watch Celtics games with him because of course everyone around here is a Celtic fan. No seriously, on game days everyone walks around in their Rondo jerseys or are wearing the color green. I love the spirit, but where’s the variety? Whatever the case, football is out for me and I have to move on to America’s second REAL (because no one actually cares about baseball) pasttime. By the way, we won tonight. (: I’m on the winning side again.
I also made another adventure to Thayer St today when I got off of work, but I’ll post more about that later because this post is getting long.
